Brothers Reunited

Travel tools

Most of us spent our careers living out of a suitcase, and plenty of us still do. These are tools I use myself on the road, so I'm happy to recommend them to fellow Brothers.

I'll add more as I find services worth sharing. If you have a favourite of your own, let me know.

Wise

Much more than great exchange rates

Great exchange rates are an obvious attraction, but what makes Wise so useful to me is everything around them:

  • Local account details in several countries. It's like having a virtual bank account in each, making it easy to receive funds locally.
  • One physical debit card and multiple virtual cards. I can set strict daily and monthly spending limits, or freeze and unfreeze cards in real time, straight from the app.
  • Returns on balances without locking my money away. As I write on 9 October 2026, I'm seeing about 3.6% a year on my US dollar balance, while still being able to send and spend it.

Features depend on where you live. Rates are variable; Wise's Interest investment product puts capital at risk.

RentalCover

Easy to buy, and there when I've needed it

I've used RentalCover perhaps 100 times. Buying cover takes literally seconds: the interface is super easy, the cover is fantastic, and in my experience the daily rate has been the same whether I've hired a small car or a larger one.

But the proof is in the pudding. I've had the misfortune to claim three times. On each occasion, once I'd gathered the required files, filing the claim took perhaps three minutes and the money was in my bank the same day. That's what keeps me coming back.

A recent example: my UK cover from 26 September to 1 October 2026 cost £39.88 in total, averaging about £6.65 per calendar day across those six dates. That's an example of what I paid, rather than a quote for your trip.

Prices and cover depend on your trip and policy. The claim timings above are my own experience.
